Dear IRAF helper,Trujillo et al. (2001 MNRAS, 328, 977) claim that IRAF allows the PSF to
be fit with a Moffat function; in fact they claim that Moffat is the
default. I'm running v2.11.3b and am unable to find any reference to
Moffat functions. The task fitpsf, for example, uses Gaussians. Can you help, or at least enlighten me?Thanks,Gary Welch

Hi Gary,
The Trujillo paper never really says explicitly what tasks
they refer to, but Moffat functions are in the system in a number of
places. It is true that FITPSF and other APPHOT tasks don't have
them, but the DAOPHOT package does (see DAOPARS and PSF help) and
this may be what was mentioned in the paper. Several of the tasks
in the ARTDATA package can similarly model using Moffat functions.
Hope this helps.Cheers,
Mike Fitzpatrick
