Dear Sir,I have done some data analysis like calibrating spectra and photometry
using IRAF V2.11. I have replaced the older version with the latest
IRAF V2.12.2. Will the older uparam files which i have used with
the older version for various tasks work with the new version of IRAF or i
have to start my data analysis all from the scratch for the analysed data.
Kindly help.

Yours trully,
Venkat

Dear Sir,
I am using mkscript to write a pipeline for the extraction of spectra.
When I include IDENTIFY in the script, the spectra to be identified is
displayed in the Tecktroniks window but when i do the marking by
positioning the cursor and pressing 'm' it doesn't allow me to enter the
wavelength for the reference point. Kindly help to sort out this problem.Yours trully,
Venkat******************************************************************************

> Hi Venkat,There is an issue with running the script you created using the
redirection, i.e., 'cl < script.cl'.What I would suggest you do is to define this script as a task. You
can do this in your login.cl so that it is always available, or
interactively in the cl, e.g.,in either you can type: task $taskname = /path/to/script(substitute taskname for any name you wish to use, and /path/to/script
with the fully qualified path to the script).If you want to set it each time you log into the cl, and from the same
directory, you can type: task $taskname = script.clThis, however, forces you to remain in the directory where the script
is located.I hope that helps.Let us know if you have further questions or problems.Cheers,Phillip

Dear.
My name is Jaewoo Lee and
I'm writing a short script using the "splot" task.
I would like to gather equivalent width measurements returned
from the splot task and other informations from the input file.
Would you kindly let me know how can I get equvalent widths?
My short script is following
Thank you very much.
Sincerely, Jaewoo
procedure ewjwl (spec_name,linelist)string spec_name {prompt="Spectrum File"}
string linelist {prompt="Input Line List"}
string outfile {prompt="Output File"}
real y1 {"0.6",prompt="ymin"}
real y2 {"1.05",prompt="ymax"}
real deltaw {"1.5",prompt="Delta_lambda"}
bool answer = yes {prompt="Continue?",mode="q"}struct *flistbegin int aperture
real w,lineid,center,cont,flux,eqw
flist = linelist
delete(outfile,ver-)
while( fscan(flist,w,lineid,aperture) != EOF ) {
if(answer) {
splot.xmax = w + deltaw
splot.xmin = w - deltaw
splot.ymin = y1
splot.ymax = y2
print(" ",lineid," ",w)
splot(spec_name,line=aperture,save_file=outfile)
# write equivalent widht, w, lineid, aperture into an external
file ????
}
;
}end

Dear Sir,
I am new to linux and IRAF. I have a PC with RH 9.0 as
the OS. I wanted to install IRAF in my machine. When i
studied the instruction manual i learnt that i have to
create /iraf/iraf/local as the home directory for IRAF
user account. When I login as a superuser to create a
IRAF user account its login directory is /home/iraf.
when I tried to edit this entry to /iraf/iraf/local
and then tried to login as an IRAF user, i was not
able to login. I get a message that one can't login as
/iraf/iraf/local as your home directory. Kindly help
to sort out this problem.Yours trully,
Venkey

Hi Venkey,When the IRAF installation script run, it creates a symbolic link
from /iraf to /home/iraf. I suspect that this link does not yet
exist. Hence, you can simply create it (the installation script should
already detect its existence) as follows:as superuser, run:
ln -s /home/iraf /irafThat should allow you to log in as iraf, provided you edited the home
directory in /etc/passwd (as it appears you did). Furthermore, you may
want, for ease of use, to edit the shell to use /bin/csh or /bin/tcsh,
as the IRAF scripts are written in csh, and hence will decrease the
number of times you have to enter the csh/tcsh.I hope that helps.Let us know if you have further questions or problems.Cheers,Phillip

Dear Sir,
I am using redhat linux 9.0 as the operating system.
I have installed IRAF V2.12.2 in the iraf account as
per the instructions in the manual. The installation
was perfect. Then i ran the mkiraf in my user account
and it produced a new login.cl file in my account. Now
inorder to install some external packages like
STSDAS,TABLES,COLOR etc i again logged in as iraf. But
unfortunately the graphics server failed. But in all
the other accounts say the root and other user
accounts the graphics server works and even iraf works
well in these accounts. The graphics server fails only
when i login as iraf. Due to this problem i am not
able to install the external packages. Kindly help me
to sort out this problem.Yours trully,
Venkey

Hi Venkey,
The iraf login directory contains some startup files which may
not be compatible with your OS version (I'm assuming that you meant that
when you login to the system the X environment doesn't start properly?).
To work around this you can simply 'su' to the iraf account from an
existing window while logged in as yourself, e.g. prompt> su - iraf
....give the iraf account passwdThe '-' is needed to tell 'su' to log you in as the iraf user which will
have the same effect as logging in through the console. Once this is done
you should be able to complete the installation of the packages as the
iraf user. Hope this helps, let us know if you still have problems.Regards,
Mike Fitzpatrick

described in some detail in the help page under "CENTROID, FLUX, AND
EQUIVALENT WIDTH DETERMINATIONS". Example #4 near the bottom of the
help describes running splot non-interactively. You might also take
a look at the bplot task.Rob Seaman
