Dear,I'm Sangwook Park, a grad student at Purdue. I have a question regarding IRAF.
I have a CO data cube, which is 3-D (velocity, longitudes, and latitudes).
How do I select different velocity intervals to see 2-D images in l,b coords.
with IRAF?Thank you.Sangwook

Hi Sangwook,
If you've got a 3-D image you can access various planes using
the normal image section syntax. For example if (x,y,z) = (vel, long, lat)
you could access the velocity planes by doing e.g. cl> imcopy foo[1,*,*] vel1
cl> imcopy foo[2,*,*] vel2
cl> imcopy foo[*,1,*] lat1
cl> imcopy foo[*,*,1] lon1and so on. For efficiency you may want to transpose the image so that the
axis of interest is in the 3rd dimension where an image slice is accessed
much faster. The IM3DTRAN task in the VOL external package (you can get
from our /iraf/extern directory) can do this but the above will also work
for random slices through an image.
Let us know if you still have problems or questions.Cheers,
Mike Fitzpatrick
