So I?m an undergraduate student trying to do some research, I?m currently using Iraf and I?m trying to follow my professors instructions to run splot and get to the data I?m trying to us, however i don?t think he gave me complete instructions, I would ask him but he?s out sick with COVID so I?d rather not bother him if I don?t have to.

My issue is as follows:

Per his instructions I get to the folder DATA/APO2014, I did that,
Then he lists the following commands
Run splot
Noao
Onedspec

However when I run splot it asks me for list of output images, which he didn?t list? If I try to input the command in one line

Run splot noao onedspec, I get an error saying onedspec wasn?t found.

Is there something I can do? Or would I need to contact him?

The instructions could have perhaps been clearer: The SPLOT task is in the ONEDSPEC package which is part of the NOAO package. You need to load the packages first to get to the task, e.g.



Notice the prompts change as the packages are loaded. If you simply type the 'splot' task name you will be prompted for required parameters, you can simply make up your own output file names if you choose. Use the command "help splot" to read the help page, you might also have a look at some of the intro docs under the 'Docs' link on the banner.
