I maintain Solaris and Redhat (Core 2) IRAF systems and do all of my development on both of them. I usually do things first on Solaris, then compile again on Redhat; Solaris is more forgiving and SPP code easier to get working there. Our pipelines are all moving to Linux, though, so I'm not sure how much longer we'll be using Solaris. I'm surprised to see such a high number of OSX systems.

I maintain a cluster of PC workstations at ASU. Most are still running Redhat 9, but we are slowly migrating to CentOS linux (a freely distributed RedHat Enterprise clone -- same code set, but without the proprietary logos). Much of our UV--near-IR data processing and analysis uses IRAF.

We run IRAF on MacBooks running 10.4.9 and an old G4 PowerBook running 10.3.9. We don't push the software very hard in our usage; but in our particular low-budget environment where IDL licenses are a luxury, these robust implementations of IRAF are greatly appreciated.

Astronomy at Yale University uses scientific linux with the ESO scisoft package. Scientific Linux is a redhat enterprise clone , similar to CentOS, supported by CERN & fermilabs. Scisoft is a collection of astronomy applications, available from their online yum repository. Scisoft is maintained by IT ESO staff & is targeted for fedora core 3.

Voted Suse-Linux as my main platform for IRAF. Most of my day to day work is done in XP on one PC, while Suse and IRAF run on another, and I use the excellent Aten CS1782 DVI-KVMP to flip between them. But I recently added Cygwin/IRAF and see myself using that - or Vbox & Suse/IRAF - a lot more in future. The great convenience of doing it all on one PC are the instantly "shared" disks and no NTFS awkwardness.

I have a gentoo ebuild for IRAF that I should probably submit sometime. :^)
