This is normal (and annoying), graphics overlays were never implemented.

Code:

Check the help page for required keywords. This may not be fatal, but indicates a missing e.g. airmass, filter, exposure time, etc keyword.

Code:

This means there is no DS9 or XImtool running and you are trying to use the image display. You can set the task 'display' parameter to be 'stdgraph' if you want to use the task with an e.g. CONTOUR plot (see the help examples). Otherwise, start a display server before using the task.
Subject: Warnings and Error With DAOFIND and PHOT
Posted: Thu Mar 18, 2010 9:08 pm (GMT 0)

I've been using PHOT for a bit and getting warnings of the following:

WARNING: Graphics overlay not available for display device
WARNING: Image <filename> Keyword: not found

The warnings don't seem to hinder the working of PHOT (that I've noticed), but no one else seems to be able to figure out why I'm even getting them.

Recently though I've started trying to use DAOFIND to try and get beyond working on one image at a time, and it's giving me an error of:

ERROR: Cannot open device (node!imtool,,512,512)
daofind()

Again, no one I'm working with seems able to determine why I'm getting this error.

If anyone can offer suggestions or help, they'd be greatly appreciated.
Applications :: mkobjects - simulated objects are not as expected (FWHM)

Subject: mkobjects - simulated objects are not as expected (FWHM)
Posted: Thu Mar 18, 2010 3:36 pm (GMT 0)

Dear IRAF,

it is already a month I am playing around with IRAF.mkobjects to simulate Globular Clusters (GCs) on a HST mosaic, but I am really concerned about the reliability of the output.
Most of all, I realized that the simulated objects systematically have a different FWHM than the input one.

Since I generate the King profile image to be convolved with the PSF, I do not actually know the input FWHM.
In fact, I can play on the King profile acting on the core radius and concentration parameter rather than on the FWHM.

Therefore, to test mkobjects, I had to fool it in this way:
> I generate a median GC template from a sample of real GC candidates cropped from the mosaic (the GC template is therefore already PSF convolved)
> This GC template is passed to IRAF.mkobjects as if it was a PSF. Asking IRAF.mkobjects to generate stellar sources will actually result into simulating GCs

The issue is that the simulated GCs have a systematically higher FWHM than the real GCs in the mosaic (about 0.4 on a FWHM of 2 pixels)!!!!!!!!!!!!
That means that just asking mkobjects to put some objects on the image, will broaden these same objects!!!!
Where am I wrong?!

Many thanks,
Paolo Bonfini

Now (suppose) I have 3 folders. Each folder contains *.fits.gz files as mentioned earlier.
Now names of the folders are: 20090101, 20090102, 20090103.

So I want to write a "for" loop within my cl script so that I can go inside 1st folder, do something, and come out of it, then go inside 2nd folder and so on.

This is my script:

Code:

for(i=1;i<=3;i+=1)
{

   if(access("2009010"//i))
     {
           #list="2009010"//i//".out" # This did not work too

           print("2009010"//i) | scan(s1)
           cd /igodata/s1
           !/usr/bin/gunzip *.gz
           imstat (images="*.fits", >> "2009010"//i//".out")
           !/usr/bin/gzip *.fits
           cd ..
    }

} # end of for loop

Then I get this error:

Quote:

ERROR: Cannot change directory to `/igodata/s1'
cd (/igodata/s1)
cl ()

Regards,

Foreign commands like 'gunzip' are executed in a spawned shell, the environment for that shell comes from your .cshrc or .bashrc file depending on the shell used. If the gunzip command isn't being found, then the PATH defined doesn't include the directory where the command lives. You can either edit the file to include a path, or try calling the command explicitly with the path, e.g.

Code:

!/usr/bin/gunzip *.gz
imstat *.fits
!/usr/bin/gzip *.fits

Mike,
Fixpix is now working. I copied the images in place like you recommended. Thank you so much for your help.
