Jeannette: I have a question for you. In trying to print out hardcopies
of the IRAF help pages, I've encountered the following annoying problem.
The carriage-control characters in the files (^L, ^N, ^O,...) get
ingored by our printer, so the page breaks fall whereever they want to,
and the document ends up looking rather ugly. We have an HP Laserjet II with a Postscript cartridge. Is it
possible to print out the help pages with our printer and get carriage
control characters to be read??? Thanks for your help John

Jeannette: Well, I am able to get better results following your
suggestion and modifying the 'nlpp' parameter. It never occurred
to me that you could get help for 'help'! The problem of the
control characters is still there however, and I must edit the
help file (I do use the two step method of redirecting the help
outout into a file before printing it) to make sure that there
aren't two many of these carriage control characters on a given
line. If there are, the line wraps down to the next one, and the
spacing from then on is off. If you know of a way to print these out so that the carriage
control sequences get recognized by the printer, please let me know. I'll muddle ahead with your first suggestion. Thanks. John
