Hi, I am trying to install IRAF on a 64-bit Debian computer. IRAF seems to have installed fine using the instructions on http://www.astronomy.ohio-state.edu/~khan/iraf/iraf_step_by_step_installation_64bit but I get the error
xgterm: error while loading shared libraries: libXmu.so.6: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory
When trying to open xgterm even though it is installed in /usr/bin/xgterm. I have tried modifying the ~/.bashrc and profile files by adding
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXmu.so.6/lib:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}
The said file does exist as in find / -iname libXmu.so.6 -print 2\$this->_split2($m[0])/dev/null returns
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXmu.so.6

XGterm (and XImtool) are 32-bit binaries and so you'll need to install the compatibility libraries for 32-bit binaries, including any special libs for X11. The tasks cannot simply be recompiled from source on a 64-bit system and no port is planned due to the amount of work required.
