Hi.
I'm looking for a way to automatically register images by their WCS and then trim them back to the largest area of common overlap.
Right now, I'm doing this with SWarp and saving the intermediate images. The problem with this is that, in order, to get equal dimensions on all of the images, I need to run it twice. The first time to get an idea of the minimum image dimensions (they're not all equal coming out of SWarp) and the second to trim them back to the final size. For the most part it works, but, not always.
With IRAF, I've tried wregister. This registers nicely but doesn't trim. I've also looked at imalign and then imcombine but the process requires too much intervention. With millions of images to slog through, I want to automate the process as much as possible.
Any thoughts on how to best do this, inside or outside of IRAF?
Thanks,
Mike
