 ERROR: MWCS: dimension mismatch (mw_open)

Im trying to use the task : splot under specred in imred in IRAF Revision 2.16.1 on IUE data downloaded from MAST archive of STScI.When I try to open those spectrums with splot it gives me a error saying

specred\$this->_split2($m[0]) splot lwr06483mxlo_vo.fits
ERROR: MWCS: dimension mismatch (mw_open)

Could i get help on this.

Please post a header for the file or a link to the data so I can have a look. I suspect the header contains an inappropriate WCS (e.g. an RA/DEC WCS) or perhaps multiple WCS keywords that can be causing the problem. One thing you might try (on a copy of the file!) is to use the WCSRESET command (e.g. "cl\$this->_split2($m[0]) wcsreset lwr06483mxlo_vo.fits wcs=world") to reset the WCS, but this may destroy everything where a simple keyword edit might fix it as well.

I remember there being some problems with IUE data but don't remember the particulars, and don't have any experience with the MAST-distributed data. Be sure to read up on the particulars of IUE data reduction and analysis at https://archive.stsci.edu/iue/analysis.html for additional pointers.

I have gone through the STScI instructions for making it IRAF readable but couldn't succeed due to tomultispec task in iuetools package which was giving me a error.

Using the ARTDATA package I was able to create a spectrum using your header that SPLOT could read even though the WCS looks a bit different. Is the original file a simple FITS file or an MEF where the spectrum is in an extension (you mentioned having to convert it with the tomultispec task, what was the error from that task?)? If it's an MEF, could you send me the file itself (email to fitz-at-iraf.net)?

Otherwise, is this the standard IRAF v2.16.1 release from NOAO or some other distribution like Ureka/AstroConda (which are custom v2.16 32-bit releases)? How did you get the IUETOOLS package? What OS is this?
