I have installed IRAF on Mac (I needed to disable the SIP firstly to allow mkiraf to install the iraf.h file in /usr/include/) and when I open an xgterm and 'ecl' to open IRAF, I get this window:
as you can see, there is no 'cl\$this->_split2($m[0])' command line prompt, and whenever I try and enter text, it's just like when you use an application from the terminal without the ampersand and then the terminal becomes useless. I can't enter anything in the xgterm, and hence can't use IRAF.
Does anyone know a fix??

Your screenshot was not posted, but if it showed the CL login hanging at "Checking update status....." then this is a rare problem where the CL is trying to callback to the iraf.noao.edu site to check for updates. Eventually (i.e. 5-10 minutes) this wil timeout but if this is the problem you can simply comment-out (i.e. add a '#' at beginning of the line) the CHKUPDATE call in the login.cl file.
Otherwise, please send me the screenshot (fitz-at-noao-dot-edu).
