Hello to all!
I have noticed an error when using Pyraf and the psf command of DAOPHOT. The error is
ERROR (851, "Cannot restore graphics world coordinate systems")
and I keep getting that when the script is attempting to plot the stars to select from).
The error seems to raise when using PyRAF 2.1.3 and IRAF 2.16.1 in Debian 8, 64 bit AND PyRAF2.1.7 and IRAF 2.16.1 in CentOS 7.2, 64 bit. There is no problem when I run the same script under a different environment (PyRAF 1.11 and IRAF 2.15.1a in Fedora 14 32 bit). So I wonder if the 64 bit platforms are responsible for this error, but I cannot find why. I have checked if this typo (in [1]) is corrected and it is,
Are there any other ideas of what might be the cause for this error?
Best
Grigoris

The problem happens because in the 64-bit v2.15 port the size of the WCS graphics structure was changed, and a corresponding change was required in pyraf (which is responsible for the graphics the same way the CL is). This bug was fixed in pyraf but apparently only for the 32-bit version. Since support for pyraf is being dropped it is unlikely that STScI will address this in a future release, but since this bug affects relatively few tasks you can workaround it by simply using 32-bit binaries for the IRAF tasks.
You can download the binary from:
ftp://iraf.noao.edu/iraf/v216/support/linux/x_daophot.e
Just download in binary mode, make sure it's executable and install in your iraf$noao/bin.linux64 directory. If you're already using a 32-bit crippled distribution like Ureka then the bug may have crept back into pyraf in a recent release, you can reach the STScI Help Desk by writing help@stsci.edu to see if they have another workaround.

Yes, that did the work! Thanks fitz!
I hope that more resources in the future will allow further support PyRAF...

STScI is moving to a python-only software system and away from IRAF as fast as they can (e.g. products like pyraf and Ureka). I wouldn't count on further development, but I would point out that the 'pyraf.net' domain is available if you're interested ..... 8-)

Ok, I thought at the beginning that the support was dropped in general. It's good news that there are other plans!

I can see where I statement was confusing, but the 'python-only' development future does NOT include pyraf. Support in the form of perhaps answering emails about pyraf may continue, but new development will not.
