Recently had to to a new install of IRAF, complete with all external mkpgs. Working away in ccdproc an then more generally ran into an error message an command failure that used to work just fine.
In the current working directory a file created with files command resides:
system> ls testlist
testlist
system>
however, when i attempt a suffiix concatenation an error message occurs:
system> imrename oldnames=@testlist newnames=new//@testlist
ERROR: Cannot open file (testlist@testlist)
system>
or even editing the parameter file:
PACKAGE = imutil
TASK = imrename
oldnames= @testlist images to be renamed
newnames= new//@testlist new image names
(verbose= no) report each rename operation
(mode = ql)
system> imrename
images to be renamed (@testlist):
new image names (new//@testlist):
ERROR: Cannot open file (testlist@testlist)
system>
something is not parsing the command line correctly? (also fails with imarith, etc.) suggestions?
thanks

Try using
cl\$this->_split2($m[0]) reset use_new_imt = no
and/or reset this value in the iraf$unix/hlib/zzsetenv.def file. This will bypass the new image template code and use the older code that should handle the concatenation correctly.

tx, that seemed to correct the problem
system\$this->_split2($m[0]) cl
system\$this->_split2($m[0]) reset use_new_imt = no
system\$this->_split2($m[0]) imrename @testlist new//@testlist
system\$this->_split2($m[0])
