Hello!

Which precession model is used by the 'precess' task of the 'noao.astutil.' package? If it's the one suggested by the IAU in 1984 (based on IAU 1976 system of astronomical constants), then are there any plans to replace it by a newer model IAU 2006 in a future IRAF release?

Thank you for the answer in advance!

According to the header comments in noao$astutil/asttools/astprecess.x used by the PRECESS task (and even the math$slalib library which is more recent, but not used in the tasks), indeed it is the 1976 model being used.

At the moment I'm tied up with another project so there are no immediate plans to update the precession model, the best I can do is promise to put it on the list of things to do. Hope this helps.
