Hello,
I am new to using the n2gaussfit task and I was wondering if, for example, if when you type the command:
n2gaussfit image.fits[134:153,367:409] out.dat
Is it creating a 19x42 box to then fit a 2D Gaussian to? So do the Xcent and Ycent values correspond to the positions of this new box?
It is also strange to me that after trying out this function on numerous different objects I keep getting the same FWHM that does not make any sense. Perhaps it is best if I set guesses for some initial coefficients... How exactly does one do this? What kind of format must a table be in for the 'tablein' parameter that takes initial guesses?
Thank you!
ss

I'm not that familiar with the task, but determining whether X/Ycent refers to the subimage section or the parent should be a simple matter of checking the values to see where they fit. The 'tablein' parameter is the name of a table file which can be in any of the supported TABLES formats, however it may be easier to simply use the TGAUSSPARS pset to specify the parameters.
If you don't get a more complete anwer here, you might also want to contact the STScI Help Desk (help@stsci.edu) since this is their task.
