It was all fine when I used iraf last week, but since yesterday every time I log into iraf, a mysterious file named "1" appear in my current directory, and it's empty. Also I cannot use ds9 properly. For example when I wanted to run daofind, I get "Error: segmentation violation". I guess there is something wrong in my installation? I use Fedora 12, and the version of my iraf is v 2.16. Should I uninstall and try installing again? Is it right to delete all the files relating to iraf? I'm quite worried about deleting them directly...Also when I type cl, I always get this "vocl". What is vocl? I think I shouldn't see vocl, right?

Unless you've done something to change your IRAF installation since last week it is unlikely to be an IRAF problem or that re-installing would help anything. The 'cl' command is actually a shell script that starts the binary, so look for changes in your .bashrc/.profile or .cshrc/.login file that might be causing the file to be created. You can use a test script such as
#!/bin/bash
echo "test"
to see if any bash script would create the file, pointing to your startup files. Is the file created in your home directory or just whichever directory you are in?
As for your other questions: The 'vocl' is the default version of the CL started with V2.16 and is normal. To undelete IRAF you do just simply delete the iraf directory tree. If you did a system install then there is a $iraf/unix/hlib/uninstall command that will remove links made into the system. Re-installing the system is just a matter of unpacking the iraf tarball in a directory and running the install script. I'll address your segfault question in the other post.
