Hello IRAF gods,

The very old (but handy) bitstat command seems to not be installed properly on my IRAF installation, though other tasks in the ctio package do work:

ecl\$this->_split2($m[0]) ctio
apropos compression. fft1d gki2cad imsort magavg pixselect
bin2iraf coords filecalc growthcurve imspace magband spcombine
bitstat cureval findfiles helio imtest mapkeyword sphot
chpixfile dfits fitrad imcreate iraf2bin midut statspec
colselect eqwidths fixtail imextract irlincor mjoin wairmass
compairmass fabry. focus immatch lambda mkapropos

ctio\$this->_split2($m[0]) bitstat
ERROR: task `bitstat' has no param file
ctio\$this->_split2($m[0]) lpar helio
images = Image names
(latitude = INDEF) Observatory latitude (degrees)
(longitude = INDEF) Observatory longitude (degrees)
(mode = "ql")

The help page for bitstat does still appear, and it looks like the source code is in the "src" directory. It looks like the bitstat.par file is missing.

I am on a Mac running OS X 10.9.5 . I've tried my vanilla IRAF installation and the ureka installation, and they are both missing the
file.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

John Feldmeier

Well, it seems the script that creates the package distribution files was excluding toplevel files beginning with a 'b' (i.e. it assumed these would only be 'bin' directories). This has been fixed and if you get a new version of the package you'll get the parameter file. On a v2.16 system this is simply

PHP Formatted Code

    % cd $iraf/extern
    % make ctio          # will re-install even if installed

If you'd rather just create the file itself, put the following in the ctio$bitstat.par file you create:

PHP Formatted Code

# bitstat parameter file
images,s,a,"",,,Input image names
output,s,a,"",,,Output file name

Thanks for the report and sorry for the inconvenience.
