I installed Yosemite which messed with my original IRAF install so I installed Ureka and it's working okay but I can't use implot or imexam - instead, the terminal poops out a bunch of gibberish and no specific error messages:
longslit\$this->_split2($m[0]) splot
List of images to plot: Zero.fits
Image line/aperture to plot (0 (1):
server # XGTERM.GUI -- Default GUI for Xgterm, providing a standard

*allowShellResize: true
*gterm.warpCursor: true
*gterm.raiseWindow: true
*gterm.deiconifyWindow: true
}

The garbage characters are the graphics metacode, you're seeing them becuse you told IRAF you were using an XGterm for graphics but you aren't actually running an XGterm window (e.g. you're doing this from a plain Terminal.app). Start IRAF from an XGterm and it should work. You can also use an XTerm window but should do a new MKIRAF to reset the terminal type first.
