I have the newest iraf 2.16.1 in Mac OS X and rvsao 2.8.1 (installed through 'make rvsao' in /extern local folder).
When I run the command xcsao, I get the error
ERROR: MWCS: coordinate system not defined (logical)
Both the input spectrum and template behave normally under other commands (splot, scombine etc).
I found a past thread about this problem with no solution. Does this problem already have a solution that doesn't require installing older versions of either iraf or rvsao?
Thanks!

I've updated the repository with the most recent RVSAO v2.8.2 in the hopes this has fixed the problem; to update all you should need to do is
% cd $iraf/extern
% make rvsao
Then try LISTSPEC on your data to see if it prints the same error. If not, could you upload a sample image to the anonymous FTP at ftp://iraf.noao.edu/pub so I can look. I don't see any obvious change in the IRAF code that would account for the error.

Thank you for the response.
When I install rvsao again as you suggested and try to run the commands listspec or xcsao in iraf, I get the error
ERROR: Cannot open connected subprocess (./x_rvsao.e)
I noted that in my /iraf/iraf/extern/rvsao directory, there is no executable in either bin.macosx, bin.generic or bin, or anywhere for that matter.
Also, I should be getting bin.macintel directory as in my other external packages, and here I get an empty bin.macosx
I run this to install the package:
bash-3.2$ sudo make rvsao
Setting architecture: 'macintel' ....
Installing package 'rvsao' .... [OK]
So I am confused about what is happening...

Try the "make rvsao" again, symlinks were preventing the binaries from getting into the earlier tarball but that should be fixed now.

Ok, it is working now! Both the installation and the problem I had in the original post -- it seems like they fixed it in the updated version.
Thanks a lot!
