I ran daofind a first time through with no errors and upon running it a second time it produced an error Cannot open file. It now no longer works on other files creating a new coordinate files.

I tried deleting the created .coo.1 file and making sure that permissions were correct, but to no avail

I don't see anything obviously wrong, any chance the disk (or /tmp) is simply full or the permissions on the directory won't let you write a new file? Does is matter which image you use? Does a command like

cl\$this->_split2($m[0]) imcopy dev$pix foo.fits

work in that directory?

It was giving me the error for multiple images. The command you wanted me to try worked fine. It seems that a simple restart of iraf fixes the problem. So for now I consider the problem fixed
