Start IRAF without internet connection

Dear all,

I would like to know if there is some way to config IRAF when
the computer has no internet connection in order to avoid the next warning:

cannot access host 'iraf.noao.edu:80'

I have next versions:

- PC-IRAF Revision 2.16.1
- PyRAF 2.1.6
- Python 2.7.6

The web connection is being done with the 'chkupdate' command in the login.cl file, which you can comment-out if you have one in the local directory, and/or comment out the system template version in iraf$unix/hlib/login.cl. Pyraf does use the ".iraf" global login mechanism, however CL users using the person install option should comment out their $HOME/.iraf/login.cl file as well.

BTW, this used to fail gracefully but this is the second report of a problem in the connection status not being properly detected. What OS and version are you using?

*** Using global login file: /home/panic/.iraf/login.cl
*** Initializing SAMP .... No Hub Available

and Pyraf does use the $HOME/iraf/login.cl (without dot).

I am using openSuSE 13.1.

I also have that problem, turns out it's probably because of the imposed usage of a proxy here.
does the chkupdate command accepts configuring a proxy ?

I have disabled the command for my users because they have no way of upgrading the install anyways, but would like to enable it for myself as the administrator

The CHKUPDATE command is a simple socket connection to http://iraf.noao.edu and doesn't accept any configuration parameters. Is it possible on your end to exclude iraf.noao.edu from the proxy?

unfortunately that's not an option according to the security manager
