I am having a confusing issue with msczero. I am running IRAF 2.16.1 EXPORT on 64-bit Linux. Typically, when I run it, the image appears correctly in ds9, and then as soon as I hit 'm' it fails. I can try resetting it, and it then fails immediately (w/o displaying in ds9 thereafter) but with the same error message, which is:
ERROR: Cannot open file (tmp$iraf7988qa.fits)
"imcopy (imroot//trimsec, wcsim1, verbose-)"
line 169: mscsrc$msczero.cl
called as: `msczero (input=image1.fits, nframes=5, coords=cat1.cat)'
The msczero settings are otherwise default. The images are quite large, but I have increased stdimage to imt8192, and they display normally with mscdisplay and msctvmark. I've tried the set disable_wcs_maps="" ; flpr ; flpr fix for msczero and it doesn't help.

Just a hunch, but try doing
cl\$this->_split2($m[0]) reset use_new_imt = no
cl\$this->_split2($m[0]) flpr 0 # zero, not 'oh'
If it works then it means a bug I thought I fixed isn't fixed..... What this does is disable the new image template code to revert to the old method. You can set this in your login.cl file or the hlib$zzsetenv.def to make it permanent if it works.

Your hunch was right! That solved it (at least on this linux machine and probably on other systems as well where I've seen the same thing). Excellent!
