Dear all,

I am using the package tellurics in IRAF to remove the tellurics from my spectra (in .fits format) and I have a problem. I use as an input: spectrum.fits(0), as telluric spectrum: tell.fits(0) and as output: out.fits. Everything runs, but when I check the output it just looks the same as the input spectrum. Anyone has an idea of the problem?

Many thanks in advanced,

Elena.

Quick answer: If by 'spectrum.fits(0)' you mean extension number zero of an MEF file then the problem may just be in the index. Extension 0 refers to the primary header which doesn't normally contain data, additionally the syntax requires the use of square brackets (e.g. "spectrum.fits[1]" is what I would expect).

If neither of these points out an obvious problem could you upload the spectrum.fits and tell.fits files to the anonftp at ftp://iraf.noao.edu/pub and post the parameters you use so we can try to produce the problem (the IRAF and OS platform would also help to know).

I imagined that before, so I decided to try also with spectrum.fits[1] tell.fits[1], but the result is really strange. I don't get the shape of a spectrum, but only a line with a lot of perpendicular long lines... I already put my files in the ftp server. My science spectrum is SCI_SLIT_FLUX_MERGE1D_NIR_0000.fits and my telluric spectrum is TELL_SLIT_FLUX_MERGE1D_NIR_0000.fits. I set all the parameters as in the default, beside the airmass, that I change it to 1.1.

Many thanks in advanced!

Elena.

Hi!

In fact I tried to plot the spectra alone using splot, and when I do: splot spectra.fits[0], I get the real spectra as I know it is... the same for the telluric.fits[0]. But it is very strange that my output out.fits looks like my spectra.fits... I read that the input spectra should not be wavelength calibrated? because mine are...

Many thanks!

Elena.
