I have created a mask file using the task 'mskregion'. When I used this mask file in the task 'objmask' for parameter 'List of input bad pixel masks', I get the following error:
ERROR: segmentation violation
"magzero=objmasks1.magzero)"
line 26: nproto$ace/objmasks.cl
called as: `objmasks ()'

Without the mask file, the objmask task does not throw any error.
Can I get some help to fix this.

Thanks

It is hard to tell from your message whether the problem is with the mask file created by MSKREGIONS or the OBJMASKS task itself. Would you mind uploading the mask file and your image to the anonftp at ftp://iraf.noao.edu/pub so we can try to reproduce the image. Also, what version of IRAF and platform are you using?

Thanks for the reply.
I have tried with two different tasks to create the mask file - mskregion and plcreate. And I get the same error with both the mask files.
I have uploaded the following files in the ftp:
NGC507.fits
NGC507_mskreg.pl
NGC507_plcreate.pl

The configuration of my computer is:
Fedora v 18 64-bit
IRAFv2.16

Did you set 'binary' mode when you did the upload? From what I can tell the FITS file has garbage pixels and isn't a multiple of 2880 bytes, and the .pl files are also unreadable.

Oops..I did not set to binary mode while sending the files over ftp. I have reloaded the files.
Thanks.

I can confirm that the bug exists in the v2.16 release but has since been fixed in the dev version (and upcoming patch). You can get a patched binary from

ftp://iraf.noao.edu/iraf/v216/support/linux64/x_nproto.e

Download (in binary mode!) and install in your iraf$noao/bin.linux64/ directory.
