I have a problem running ellipse in interactive mode: ellipses and masks are not displayed on ds9 without any error message. Object locator and fitting routine work, as well as other interactive commands. Only ellipses and masks are not displayed.
I have installed iraf V2.16 on mac 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 (64bit), OS X 10.7.5 (11G63) running XQuartz 2.7.4 (xorg-server 1.13.2). STSDAS is Version 3.15. DS9 Version 7.1 (October 15, 2012) for OS X Lion.
Any idea what's the problem and how to fix it?
Thanks!
Stefano

Thanks Mike, the trick of using the ecl.e/vocl.e file in the 32 bit macosx distribution instead of the 64bit macintel does the job and now I can see the ellipses and masks.

Hi,
I am facing a similar problem.
In addition, the isoimap fails to display the mask file but, the elliptical isophotes are displayed.
My computer has the following configuration
IRAFv 2.16
Fedora v 18
64-bit
The links that were given in the reply are not working. Can I get some help please.
Thanks

The relevant post in this case is https://iraf.net/forum/viewtopic.php?showtopic=1467395, I'll try to fix the links in the database once I return from travel.
Note that 32-bit binaries for the CL flavors are available from
ftp://iraf.noao.edu/pub/cl.e.LNUX
ftp://iraf.noao.edu/pub/ecl.e.LNUX
ftp://iraf.noao.edu/pub/vocl.e.LNUX
Download in binary mode, remove the ".LNUX" suffix and put in your $iraf/bin.linux64 directory.

Replacing the 64-bit binary with 32-bit solved the issue partially. Running ellipse in interactive mode now show elliptical contours. But, the mask is still not visible. And also, it does not look like it even considered the mask region to compute. Can you please suggest how to proceed further?
Thanks.

I don't believe any of the "usual suspects" here are too familiar with the ELLIPSE task, if you don't get a reply from anyone I'd suggest you try the help desk at STScI (help@stsci.edu) since this is their task.
