Hi!2 questions:1. I usually display more than 10 images in ds9 and I use button 'a' of imexa on them and log the report. I noticed that after frame 10 it goes back to 1, i.e. it does not read the value of the correspondent image, but it goes back to the first frame. I tried changing nframes in epar imexa but wth no success.2. Can more than 16 images be displayed from cl ? I can if I open them directly from ds9 but levels are different and it turns out more uncomfortable. Anyway in bosth cases using display from cl or or directly from ds9 I get teh same problem wioth teh imeza 10 naximim. Thanks in advance, Mario

Second is whether or not DS9 is properly encoding the frame number. Are you displaying initially from the CL or using DS9 directly and then running IMEXAM? The frame number is a simple bitmask and a change to the code was required in order to allow more than 4 frames. The wraparound with frame 10 seems to be an issue with how the frame is being interpreted. Can't you just run IMEXAM on a list of images rather than open the frames first?[quote:ee6cf32f32]

The frame designation is a simple 16-bit bitmask, so even though DS9 might have more frames open it may respond with a frame value other than the real value because of the way the bitmask is interpreted.

Thanks very much for your replymy ds9 allows more than 4. Does not prompt after 5. I have some scripts to display up to 16 from cl. I use a commnad that looks likecl> disp image1.fits 1to cl> disp image16.fits 16But when I imexa in, say frame 11, the reading I get from command-button 'a' is that of frame 1. I shall take your advice and imexa directly, but I am not sure if I knos how to do it. I may get back to you.Regards,
Mario

Hi,I had the same problem a few years back, as documented in https://iraf.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=86486, but it was fixed. Now I just checked that this bug is showing up again in the latest DS9 version, 6.1.2 (64bit).
I'm gonna write to the DS9 developers to report the bug; I'll post back if I get any news from them.CheersNicola

Hi!Thanks so much for your reply. But I found no consolation... I find that to do quick photometry in a large number of images I need to imexam on ds9 more than 10 frames. Can you suggest a way to circumvent the 9 frames limitation? , apart that displaying 9 at a time.... How can you imexamine directly a large number of non aligned images?Cheers!
Mario

9 frames is a limitation (bug?) in DS9, you could use XImtool but then you'd still be limited to batches of 16.To process many images, a task like WREGISTER or IMSHIFT could be used to align the images, then call IMEXAM as e.g.[code:1:505f59e84b]cl> imexam *.fits 1[/code:1:505f59e84b]All the images would be processed in frame 1 and you'd use the 'n' and 'p' (next and previous) keystrokes to move through the list.
