'Command not found' usually means the iraf 'local bin directory' you specified to the install script (normally /usr/local/bin) is not in your command path. This path is usually set in your .cshrc/.bashrc or .login file. New commands also sometimes need you to type 'rehash' after they're installed so they can be found, but if you can type e.g. /usr/local/bin/mkiraf to execute the command, check your path to be sure that directory is defined.-Mike

The /usr/local/bin directory is the default for the install script, but you can put the commands anywhere. Did you run the install script (as the root user and *without* the '-n ' flag)?? If so, look in the directory your specified. If not, you'll need to run the install script first.-Mike

Hi, I tried to install IRAF to the Fedora9 system. ./install -n was successful, "Installation Completed With No Errors". The default unix command directory was /usr/local/bin. However, this folder was still empty when installation was finished. What is the problem?

[quote:cd7ac810c7]....../install -n was successful, .....[/quote:cd7ac810c7]The install script must be run without the '-n' flag in order to have any effect and actually install something.-Mike

Running as superuser (normal user did not make changes) with ./install ran OK. And it did install someing into /usr/local/bin. Mkiraf seemed OK, but it went wrong when I enter cl. The message said "/iraf/iraf/bin.redhat/ecl.e: error while loading shared libraries: libtermacp.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory "The OS I am using is Fedora 9. By the way, when installing, the network setop failed. Does the problem have something to do with this failure? Thanks for supporting.Zb

To solve the missing termcap lib you can install the 'ncurses' package on your system, but since it is Fedora 9 the ecl.e binary may be looking for an older version that your would get. You can get a statically linked binary from https://iraf.net/ftp/pub/fitz/ecl.e that should work, just download in binary mode and put it in your /iraf/iraf/bin.redhat directory. As for the network setup, unless you're planning to use IRAF networking for remote device/image access you can ignore it. -Mike
