Hi, is it possible to use the mrxvt terminal for IRAF, and how I should set it in IRAF (I tried but when I do an splot, for example, it show me code characters in the terminal)?
The problem is that with the xgterm (I'm working on a Mac, by the way) it is not possible (or I haven't found the correct way) to see the colors when I type "ls --color":
it just show me bold caracters or normal, but always in black on white.
Suggestions?
Andrea

but I already have the LS_COLORS setted, and it works in xterm, or in the standard terminal of Mac... it doesn't work in the xGterm, in the sense that it show me only bold and not bold, but no color! (and for ex, if I set xgterm -bg black -fg white, it is the same, bold or not bold..)

What is your $TERM setting? You should only see colors with 'xterm-color'.-Mike

if I type "echo $TERM"
in the terminal I obtain "xterm-color" as answer!
in the xterm (just opening a new xterm) I obtain "xterm", but when I log with the "bash -l", it works
in the xgterm I obtain "xterm", and even with the "bash -l" it doesn't work, or better speaking it "works" giving me the bold characters.

[quote:56440ba3e9="acard"]Any suggestion? [/quote:56440ba3e9]Acard, I've never seen an xgterm window obey color settings for commands like [i:56440ba3e9]ls[/i:56440ba3e9] and [i:56440ba3e9]grep[/i:56440ba3e9]. That doesn't mean it's not possible somehow...Jason

Just tried it so it should work for you as well:1) set your $TERM to be 'xterm-color'
2) Use the Right-MB menu an enable the 'Enable Color Text' option
3) type "ls -G" to get color outputI can't remember just now whether there is a resource to set the color text on by default.-Mike

in the xgterm I:
typed export "TERM=xterm-color" (so when I type "echo $TERM" it answer me "xterm-color");
clickked the right mouse-button to find the 'Enable Color Text' command but it doesn't exist (neither in a xterm window);
typed "ls -G", and again I see bold and not bold characters!I'm starting to think that it is impossible to have the xgterm with colors!

If you don't see an 'Enable Color Text' option, you may just have an old version. Try getting the latest from the downloads area, but I assure you it is possible to get color text.Cheers,
-Mike
