I get the following error message when I try to execute the "ds9" command outside of iraf._X11TransSocketINETConnect() can't get address for /tmp/launch-G0KLYn/:6000: nodename nor servname provided, or not known
Application initialization failed: couldn't connect to display "/tmp/launch-G0KLYn/:0"
Error in startup script: invalid command name "option"
while executing
"option add {*Entry*BorderWidth} 1"
(file "./zvfsmntpt/src/ds9.tcl" line 10)I am using the scisoft package in Mac OS 10.5.2. IRAF seems to work fine except that I had to manually do mkiraf since the command didn't seem to work. Has anyone seen that error? Any ideas?Thanks,

It appears that if you have the Leopard firewall enabled (System Preferences:Security:Firewall), when you launch DS9 (or any program) the first time, it creates a new file in the application bundle called CodeResources and also modifies the DS9 binary. So the next time you try to launch DS9, it fails because the built-in archive is now corrupted by Leopard. Seems other programs are having similar issues (WoW and Skype for one). In fact any application that does an internal checksum or otherwise depends on an unmodified binary will fail. Once the binary has been corrupted, you must reinstall to correct the problem.[/quote:44d82c35b2]X11 changed substantially under Leopard, specifically in how apps can be started to launch X11 themselves and in how the DISPLAY variable is used. You might also try starting X11 yourself before firing up DS9. I'm not sure what version comes with SciSoft so getting the latest version of DS9 from SAO might also help.-Mike
