I cannot get the phot task to work on on multiple images. I ran daofind on a list of images and got multiple of coo files, but when I then try to run phot with that same list of images I get the following error.
ERROR: Cannot open file (23a1.coo.0)Why would it be looking for 23a1.coo.0, when there is a 23a1.coo.1 file available? Doesn't the coo.? mean it looks for the highest number in the directory? Thanks

When you specify the 'coords' parameter (epar phot) as 'default', then the task will look for the coordinate file with the highest version number. The question mark is a wildcard that matches a single character in the (in this case) filename string. So, for example, if you have a thousand files, where the standard name is image###.fits (ranging from 000 to 999), you can list, e.g., a sequence of 10 files, you can do: dir image122?.fitsor a sequence of 100 files: dir image35??.fits.
