Folks here are currently running IRAF on a single node of a 32-node / 64-CPU Beowulf cluster. I've only ever seen one journal article published on using IRAF on a Beowulf cluster where someone enhanced a single IRAF command with an MPI-based implementation on at most 5 CPUs. Is there more work going on with MPI-based implementations to parallelize specific parts of IRAF for distributed membory parallel machines like a Beowulf cluster?
