You can get the installation files from the following FTP site:ftp://iraf.noao.edu/iraf/v212/PCIX/For SuSE, you should retrieve the following three files: ib.suse.x86.gz[/color:91e16fa88a], nb.suse.x86.gz[/color:91e16fa88a], and as.pcix.gen.gz[/color:91e16fa88a]; this last file contains all the sources (including the .cl scripts to run the various tasks). After doing so, please go to http://docs.iraf.net; click on "Installation and Site Manager's Guides", then click on one of the three links associated with "PC-IRAF V2.12 Installation Guide" (the link on the title is the link to image copies of the documentation, while the two at the end are in PDF format, or compressed PostScript format).Hope that helps.

[quote:8df94c20df="tree1"]What do I do next?[/quote:8df94c20df]What did you actually do?Did you read and actually [i:8df94c20df]follow[/i:8df94c20df] the installation documentation (i.e., do the steps)?I could be much more helpful if you would actually tell me the steps you have already taken. Only then could I give you an accurate response to your question.

I have tried to install IRAF according to the manual many times before, but it has never worked.

Could you please explain how it has never worked? Do you get any errors? Are there any messages from the shell when trying to start the cl? Did you run 'mkiraf'? Or was it more fundamental that the install script gave you errors? If so, what errors did it print out to the terminal screen? What terminal are you using? Do you have c-shell or tc-shell (/bin/csh or /bin/tcsh) installed?I could go on with a list of questions that undoubtedly already have answers, and are included in the forum postings, in the form of IRAF sitemail archives (i.e., the IRAF sitemail goes back many many years).Could you [b:1170be80b2][i:1170be80b2][u:1170be80b2]please[/u:1170be80b2][/i:1170be80b2][/b:1170be80b2] be more specific when posting here?

The 'cl' and 'mkiraf' commands are unix commands installed in your "local bin directory" (typically /usr/local/bin). A "Command not found" error means these commands aren't in your path, try a "rehash" to see if you can pick them up once they're installed, a "which cl" to see if it can be found at all, or edit your path to include the directory where you installed them.To run either command, simply type the command name at the linux prompt -- *something* should happen and if its an error message post it here.-Mike
