Existing 32-bit gbnaries will (generally speaking) work, however local compilation of packages or IMFORT tasks are not supported. 64-bit filesystems will also cause problems and
of course you're still limited to 2GB files and memory.-Mike

Mike,This brings up the general question (sorry if it's been answered before, please point me in that direction if it has):Will we be getting binary distributions for new platforms as they arrive? I'm specifically interested in 64-bit Linux and possibly Mac OS X on Intel (released today!)-Matt

[quote:1a2897b212]Will we be getting binary distributions for new platforms as they arrive?[/quote:1a2897b212]In the most literal interpretation, yes. [b:1a2897b212]However[/b:1a2897b212], the 64-bit horse was beaten dead long ago and in the new age of IRAF, all major development of IRAF at NOAO must first be approved by management. 64-bit support counts as major development due to the large amount of testing that is required. The Intel/Mac question took longer to arrive than I expected: Without a machine it is impossible to do a port, and as part of NOAO development we probably won't do a port until it becomes an issue for them and machines become common, or I just happen to get my hands on one and can do the port on my own time. Otherwise, start hitting the 'Donate' button at left and nagging your Mac friends to help the cause.Ports and release preparation takes a few weeks FTE, the Projects page discusses some of the development we'd like to do at iraf.net (an Intel/Mac port is high on the list!) but remember we still have day jobs and kids we like to see. As soon as something "arrives" it will be released, it is getting to that point that is the hard part. -Mike
