Hi, I'm a student working on photometry of a supernova. I've run into the same problem as described in this topic, https://iraf.net/forum/viewtopic.php?showtopic=1467834. I'm using a Mac with OS X 10.11 and IRAF 2.16.1, 64-bit. I've read the the solution presented in the aforementioned topic
Download in binary mode and install in your $iraf/noao/bin.linux64 directory.
, but how do I actually go about doing this? I'm fairly new to IRAF and using terminal, so I don't want to mess my directories up by trying to figure this out myself.

1) Open a Terminal window

2) Download the file to the current directory:

% ftp ftp://iraf.noao.edu/iraf/v216/support/macosx/x_photcal.e

3) Make the binary executable:

% chmod 755 x_photcal.e

4) Replace the existing 64-bit binary with the 32-bit one just downloaded:

% cp x_photcal.e $iraf/noao/bin.macintel/

where '$iraf' is the iraf root directory, typically something like /iraf/iraf.
