NUMBER: 496 MODULE: guiapps.spectool SYSTEM: All DATE: Wed May 29 09:39:07 MST 2002 FROM: valdes BUG: When spectool (or tutorial) is run multiple times without resetting the executable with 'flpr', it is possible to get a segmentation violation before displaying any spectrum on the second or later executions in certain situations. The main situation where this might occur is running spectool without a spectrum filename argument and then using the 'Read' panel to browze for a spectrum to display. The specific case where this bug was found was modifying the file template. This bug is caused by an uninitialized pointer. Note that after you have displayed a spectrum any error (including a segmentation error) will not be due to this bug. The workaround is simply to use flpr between executions. If an error occurs use flpr and continue though occasionally the terminal window may become locked and the xgterm might need to be restarted. STATUS: Fixed in distributions after the date of this report.
